Chirp Shield

Defining a specific sound problem before designing a response.

Current stageInitial technical proposal

My contributionI mapped the characteristics of the target noise, considered possible processing methods, and developed an initial technical proposal.

The question

Which bird sounds are disruptive, and in what situations?

Exploration

The portfolio contains sound research, form studies, concept renders, an interface proposal, an exploded view, and 3D-print photographs. These show the proposed object and interaction, rather than measured acoustic performance.

Exploring form and assembly

The modelling studies and printed forms make the proposal tangible. The interactive assembly above offers another way to inspect its layers; it does not demonstrate acoustic performance.

What I did

I mapped the characteristics of the target noise, considered possible processing methods, and developed an initial technical proposal.

Where it stands

The proposal has not been validated in a real environment. The interface and scenario images illustrate intended functions.

What I am learning

Noise reduction needs a clearly defined sound type and use context. Solving one specific problem is more useful than trying to cover every environment.

Next question

Define a focused sound and use scenario, then evaluate the proposal in that setting.
