About me
An introduction through the questions I am working on.
I am Charles Hong (Qiyao Hong), preparing applications in interaction and design to universities in the UK, US, and Hong Kong.
I’m drawn to interaction design because it connects how something works with how people experience it. I want to explore that connection through everyday objects and hands-on experiments.
My current projects look at different kinds of everyday interactions: a child carrying soap, a player collecting tennis balls, a robot moving along a wall, and a person responding to unwanted sound.
Across these projects, I am learning to define the core interaction before adding functions, and to separate a plausible drawing from something that has been tested.
Photography and film are also part of my work. The visual journal includes a selection of photographs and Stolen Sonata, a short film shot at UCL in 2024, on which I worked as camera operator.
Away from the desk
I enjoy skiing, gaming, reading, and travelling. Photography and film are other ways I explore what catches my attention.
